In Romulan, ch'Vall means "of the ocean," or "of water." This name is appropriate.Ch'Vall is a true water world. Enough water has accumulated that the planetary oceans cover nearly every square centimeter of this planet. Some minor volcanic chimneys have broken the surface, and polar ice provides some footing above the water, but this comprises less than one thousandth of one percent of the total available surface area.

The Romulans discovered this planet long after their development of warp technology. Only their most advanced scientific breakthroughs have permitted them to build the structures necessary to house an oxygen atmosphere below the surface of the ocean. The Romulan Star Empire continues to fund a small scientific and agricultural colony here, perhaps thanks to the pervasive respect that Romulans have for water.
