Desert. Surface moisture is lower here than on any M-class planet
on record. Large subterranean pockets of water are detected, however,
and have a marginal but noticeable impact on planetary climate. Storms
with precipitation are extremely rare, but windstorms are prevalent
and should be avoided, if possible.
Details
The endless sand plains of Lootyur resemble the typical desert wasteland
-- rippled dunes cover everything, their C-shaped leeward edges continuing,
at times, uninterrupted for hundreds of kilometers. Windstorms are frequent,
lifting massive clouds of sand into orange bands that resemble the rings
of ammonia and sulfur that can be seen in Lootyur's gas giant sister
planets.
Specifics
Life has evolved on this planet, however, and even prospers on the
granite peaks of Lootyur's mountain ranges and in some of the rocky
basins in the extreme latitudes. Plants and small insects have developed
strategies for extracting moisture from the atmosphere and from water-filled
caverns deep beneath the surface. Klingon scientists have measured the
taproots of some plants at more than one kilometer.
